The operation mainly prepares for a broader reorganization: the current Funding Account will be renamed Stocks Account and reserved for settling stock and stock options transactions.
Binance shifts crypto back to Spot Accounts
Binance is simplifying the architecture of its crypto exchange. Starting September 29, the Funding Account will no longer accept on-chain crypto deposits. Deposits and withdrawals for other cryptocurrencies will gradually move to Spot Accounts.
A “One-Click Migration” button will allow users to voluntarily transfer their crypto to Spot. Those who do not use the feature will not lose their funds: Binance says it will automatically carry out the remaining migrations in waves starting in January 2027.
The total value held by each user should not be affected by the operation. Binance will also retain previous transaction histories under their Funding Account label.
However, users will need to update the mobile app to see the new migration feature.
Funding becomes Stocks Account in January
The change mainly reflects the new role assigned to the Funding Account. In January 2027, Binance plans to rename it Stocks Account, reserved exclusively for settling stock and stock options transactions.
Six assets will remain available in this environment: USD, USDC, USDT, USD1, U and BNB. They will be used notably to settle the relevant stock products. Other cryptocurrencies will have to go through Spot for deposits and withdrawals.
The move therefore accompanies Binance’s expansion beyond the crypto market alone. The platform is gradually separating use cases: Spot for digital assets, Alpha Account for certain Alpha 2.0 operations, and soon Stocks Account for stock products.
For users of the Binance Web3 Wallet, nothing in this announcement directly changes the wallet’s self-custody model. The change concerns the organization of internal accounts on the centralized exchange.
P2P, Binance Pay and Convert are also affected
The migration goes beyond simply moving a balance. Starting September 29, funds received through Binance Pay, Binance Card and Gift Card will be credited to Spot. New Convert limit orders will also be funded and settled from Spot. Recurring orders should be checked to prevent an old Funding Account from remaining selected as the source.
P2P will follow a separate schedule. Non-merchant users with no advertising history will use Spot as their default source of funds after updating the app. P2P advertisers will temporarily continue using Funding before the arrival of a dedicated P2P Account in December 2026.
After January 2027, P2P advertisements that have not been migrated to this new account may be closed automatically.
Binance is therefore not asking all its users to act urgently. Crypto assets not transferred manually will be moved automatically. The main date to remember remains September 29, when the Funding Account will actually begin losing its former crypto functions.
For users of stablecoins such as USDT and USDC, the change will be mainly organizational: the assets will remain available, but their location and use within the Binance ecosystem will evolve.
