Un smartphone convertit des stablecoins en paiements mobiles reliés à plusieurs marchés africains

DCS Pay and Kotani Pay want to bring stablecoins closer to the payment methods used daily across Africa. Their new partnership is designed to convert USDT and USDC into local currencies, then enable payments through mobile money, USSD and other domestic rails. The rollout will begin in Nigeria before expanding to Kenya, Ghana, Egypt, South Africa and Tanzania.

Africa Crypto News: Nigeria Leads the Way

Nigeria will be the first market for this new integration. That choice is not insignificant. Stablecoins already play a growing role in the country’s transfers and payments, while Bref Crypto recently reported that cNGN is joining Celo to develop cross-border payments.

In practical terms, DCS Pay will provide the stablecoin layer: the wallet, payment interface, user and merchant onboarding, compliance and transfer initiation. Kotani Pay will then handle the conversion of USDT and USDC into local currencies, before payment is sent to the recipient through the infrastructure available locally.

Regulated exchanges using DCS Pay will therefore be able to access Kotani’s local rails without having to build a separate infrastructure in each country.

The announcement published by TechAfrica News presents this integration as a new bridge between international stablecoin flows and African payment systems.

USDT Reaches Mobile Money Directly

This is probably where the most interesting point lies. The end user does not necessarily need to understand the blockchain used upstream. Stablecoins are used to move value; Kotani Pay then routes it through infrastructure that African consumers already know.

Mobile money, USSD, local currency.

In other words, the goal is no longer simply to enable Africans to buy crypto. It is now about connecting crypto to real-world payments. This trend is already visible in Nigeria, where SpaceTrade is seeking to make crypto as easy to spend as the naira.

Kotani Pay presents itself specifically as a bridge between digital assets and African currencies. Its official website states that it is compatible with more than 15 blockchain networks and offers on-ramp, off-ramp and stablecoin settlement services. The company is also registered as a Financial Service Provider in South Africa.

For DCS Pay, the benefit is different: gaining a local entry point without building these country-by-country connections on its own.

Six African Markets in the Crosshairs

After Nigeria, the partnership is expected to expand to Kenya, Ghana, Egypt, South Africa and Tanzania. Six markets in total are therefore explicitly named in the current plan. However, no precise timeline has been announced for the five countries that will follow Nigeria.

This expansion comes as the African market rapidly becomes more professional. In Nigeria, cross-border payments and new tax rules are already reshaping a crypto sector estimated at $92 billion.

The DCS Pay–Kotani Pay partnership therefore adds another piece to this infrastructure. It does not create a new stablecoin. Instead, it seeks to make USDT and USDC usable between international businesses and existing African payment networks.

This is less spectacular than a new token, but probably more important for real-world use. In Africa, the crypto battle is gradually shifting from trading toward payment rails, conversion into local currency and the last mile. And on this front, mobile money remains essential.
