Hyperliquid Joins the Nasdaq-CME Index With a 3.36% Weight

Hyperliquid has reached a new institutional milestone. As of September 1, HYPE is officially part of the Nasdaq CME Crypto Index and the Hashdex Nasdaq CME Crypto Index ETF listed on the Nasdaq. Its weight has already reached 3.36%, nearly matching Solana at 3.79%. Bitcoin remains far ahead at 74.36%.

Hyperliquid joins Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP

HYPE’s arrival increases the Hashdex fund’s portfolio from eight to nine crypto assets. The change comes just days after Bref Crypto reported that Hyperliquid Strategies had accumulated 29.3 million HYPE tokens. Institutional interest in the token is now taking a much more concrete form.

Hyperliquid joins Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar and Bitcoin Cash.

According to the prospectus filed with the SEC, Bitcoin accounts for 74.36% of the index, Ethereum 11.88%, XRP 5.21%, Solana 3.79% and HYPE 3.36%. Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar and Bitcoin Cash together account for less than 1.5%.

HYPE met the market-capitalization, liquidity and institutional custody criteria required for inclusion in the index.

HYPE already surpasses several major assets

Its weighting is the most surprising aspect.

Hyperliquid enters directly ahead of Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar and Bitcoin Cash. It is even just 0.43 percentage points behind Solana.

The gap with the established assets is, of course, still substantial. Bitcoin and Ethereum together account for more than 86% of the portfolio. XRP also maintains a comfortable third place with 5.21%.

The Nasdaq CME Crypto Index uses a float-adjusted market-capitalization weighting and applies several eligibility filters. Its composition is reviewed quarterly.

This mechanism explains why Hyperliquid’s inclusion matters more than a simple listing on a platform. Charles Schwab is also beginning to expand its offering beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum. Regulated financial products are gradually incorporating a second generation of crypto assets.

Hyperliquid enters a US ETF directly

The impact is immediate for the Hashdex Nasdaq CME Crypto Index ETF, which trades under the ticker NCIQ.

The fund tracks its benchmark index. When an investor now buys this diversified basket, part of that exposure therefore automatically corresponds to HYPE. This is not merely a theoretical index: Hyperliquid is effectively entering the portfolio of a regulated US ETF.

The contrast with Hyperliquid’s recent news is notable. More than $30 million in Bitcoin linked to Lazarus recently moved through the platform, reigniting questions surrounding permissionless finance and sanctions.

Just a few hours later, HYPE nevertheless crossed another Wall Street gateway.

This is not a validation of all the risks associated with Hyperliquid. It is nonetheless a difficult-to-ignore change in status: HYPE is no longer merely the token of a highly popular DEX. It now belongs to the same institutional basket as Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and Solana.
