Bitcoin Suisse Could Cut Up to 60 Jobs in Switzerland

Bitcoin Suisse could cut up to 60 of its 120 jobs in Switzerland and transfer more activities to Bratislava and Vietnam.

Bitcoin Suisse could cut up to 60 of its 120 jobs in Switzerland, equivalent to half of its workforce in its home country. Founded in Zug in 2013, the company plans to transfer more software development and administrative functions to its international hubs. The move represents a major restructuring for one of Europe’s long-standing Bitcoin players, and comes paradoxically as the company expands internationally.

Up to 60 positions targeted at Bitcoin Suisse

Employees were informed on Friday, September 11. According to Reuters, Bitcoin Suisse is considering cutting up to 60 positions following a consultation due to end on September 20. The final figure could therefore still change.

The company employs around 200 people worldwide, including 120 in Switzerland. It wants to keep client-facing roles in Zug, including relationship management, advisory services, wealth management and asset management.

The decision also reflects how the sector has evolved since Bitcoin’s early days. Established companies are no longer limited to buying and selling BTC. They now combine custody, institutional trading, staking, wealth management and regulated services.

Bref Crypto recently explained how Bitcoin is gradually becoming more integrated into traditional finance, particularly through banks and institutional investors.

Bitcoin Suisse, for its part, says the reorganization is not a direct response to recent market fluctuations.

Bratislava and Vietnam gain importance

Software development and certain back-office functions are to be consolidated further outside Switzerland.

Bitcoin Suisse already has a hub in Bratislava, Slovakia, while another is due to open in Vietnam. The group also plans to close its IT development center in Copenhagen. The stated goal is to gain access to more talent and make technology investments more efficient.

This shift comes as the company is accelerating its expansion beyond its borders.

In June, Bitcoin Suisse obtained a MiCA license in Liechtenstein, allowing it to expand its services across the European Economic Area. The group also has operations in Abu Dhabi and Bermuda.

Europe is becoming more structured around digital assets. Bref Crypto recently noted that MiCA and new European regulations are gradually changing access conditions for Bitcoin.

The paradox is therefore clear: the company could significantly reduce its Swiss workforce at the very moment its geographical footprint is expanding.

Zug remains at the heart of Bitcoin Suisse

The decision has particular symbolic significance.

Bitcoin Suisse was founded in Zug in 2013, when Bitcoin was still worth only a few hundred dollars. The company helped establish the region as “Crypto Valley,” which became one of Europe’s leading hubs for the digital-asset industry.

Thirteen years later, Zug is not disappearing from its organizational structure. Commercial activities and client relationships are expected to remain concentrated there.

It is primarily the technological infrastructure behind the business that is becoming international.

This model is not unusual: regulatory, institutional and wealth-management functions remain close to the main financial markets, while development and certain operations are distributed across several countries.

Bitcoin Suisse is therefore presenting the plan less as a retreat from Switzerland than as a new stage in its internationalization.

For Crypto Valley, however, the picture is less comfortable. An emblematic company in the Bitcoin ecosystem can continue to grow abroad while employing significantly fewer people in its home country.

The name remains Bitcoin Suisse. An increasing part of the machine, however, will operate elsewhere.
